The Khmers In Lower North Thailand

The Khmer Empire was that of the Hindu believing Khmers of Cambodia who ethnically were Austroasians [ as were the Mon ]. The Khmers accepted Buddhism but additionally subjugated their subjects to subscribe to Hindu concepts of the divine right of Kings who regarded themselves as Gods.

The major Khmer settlements [ or garrisons ] in Lower North Thailand were at:

* Muang Si Thep in Phetchabun Province
* around Wat Phra Phai Luang in Sukhothai Province, and
* Si Satchanalai
